Sunway and Huawei Collaborate to Advance Digital Transformation

Sunway Berhad (Sunway), through its wholly owned subsidiary Sunway Shared Services Sdn Bhd, and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei), have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore a collaboration to develop and advance the Sunway Digital Innovation Programme.

The MoU aims to explore the possibility of Huawei driving new digital service initiatives through the Sunway Digital Innovation Programme, which advances digital transformation across Sunway Group, one of Malaysia's leading conglomerates with 13 business divisions, with its flagship smart sustainable township and living laboratory Sunway City Kuala Lumpur serving as a testbed for innovative solutions.

The proposed collaboration will see Sunway and Huawei explore developments in FinTech, Big Data, Machine Learning, Digital Growth Platforms, Go-To-Market Enablement, and Cloud Infrastructure Modernisation, leveraging Huawei’s advanced technology, ecosystem, and digital innovation capabilities.

Sunway Shared Services manages all information technology (IT) support functions for Sunway business divisions and delivers value through the standardisation, consolidation and optimisation of IT resources within the Group.

Sunway Group Chief Information Officer Kevin Khoo and Huawei Malaysia Vice President of Cloud and AI Lim Chee Siong signed the MoU, which was witnessed by Sunway Group President Tan Sri Chew Chee Kin and Huawei Malaysia CEO Michael Yuan.

“Sunway is pleased to partner with Huawei to further accelerate our digital transformation efforts throughout the Group, in line with the Industrial 4.0 revolution. At Sunway, we continuously prioritise digital innovation by investing in talent, resources and infrastructure to ensure the Group remains sustainable, resilient and relevant to the ever-changing environment,” said Sunway Group President Tan Sri Chew Chee Kin.

“We are excited to work closely with Huawei, a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure, to co-engineer and co-build new digital service initiatives for Sunway which are in alignment with our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as well as our ESG goals. We look forward to seeing the innovative outcome of this collaboration and how it will fuel Sunway’s thriving ecosystem,” said Sunway Group Chief Information Officer Kevin Khoo.

Commenting on the partnership, Huawei Malaysia CEO Michael Yuan said that as a global technology leader, Huawei was well positioned to provide the technical assistance and guidance for Sunway Group to transform into a digital conglomerate.

“This Sunway Digital Innovation Programme is certainly the right move, as digitalisation will make the organisation more relevant and more competitive than ever before in this digital age.

“Huawei remains committed to working with customers and partners to integrate core business scenarios with ICT technologies, and to accelerate industrial digitalization as well as upgrades through scenario-specific, innovative solutions. We believe this is key to the digitalization of the industry.

“It is Huawei’s honour and privilege to be a part of Sunway Group’s digital transformation journey, and we look forward to the smooth realisation of both our aspirations under this collaboration,” Yuan added.

In line with Yuan's sentiments, Huawei Malaysia Vice President of Cloud and AI Lim Chee Siong emphasised the importance of capitalising on new digital solutions as a means of progressing in the New Normal, which is driven by innovation.

“From small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to large conglomerates and multi-national corporations, Huawei has had the privilege of helping companies all over the world future-proof themselves to remain relevant and become more resilient in this digital age. We are excited to journey with the Sunway Group for their transformation and look forward to seeing what we can achieve together,” Lim said.
