OVHcloud, the European cloud leader, today holds a keynote at the legendary French theater Olympia to unveil its vision for the next generation of a sovereign, open, trusted cloud and the accompanying next disruptions. Presented by OVHcloud founder and chairman Octave Klaba and OVHcloud CEO Michel Paulin, the event will let customers, partners, IT decision makers and related communities learn about the Group supercharging its core values of transparency, sovereignty, sustainability, openness and trust in all tenets of its business. This long-term ambition is well-illustrated by the Group's most recent financial results for the fiscal year 2022, confirming its acceleration strategy with consistent double- digit growth and demonstrating its ability to tackle the next generation of cloud challenges.
Deploying the most sustainable cloud model on the market
In a booming market, OVHcloud intends to accelerate its worldwide deployment with the opening of 15 new data centers to address new markets and geographies by the end of 2024, all the while demonstrating OVHcloud sustainability advances. With more than 20 years of experience in designing server water-cooling systems, OVHcloud aims to reduce its environmental impact with best-in-class usage effectiveness indexes:
PUE: 1.1 to 1.3, while the industry average is at 1.57
WUE: 0.26, while the industry average is at 1.8
The Group has pioneered a circular approach with its integrated model and has already made the following commitments:
100% low-carbon energy by 2025 to limit the use of high-carbon energy by promoting renewable energy and other low-carbon energy sources
Contribution to Global Net-Zero for scopes 1 and 2 by 2025, with scopes 1 and 2 representing almost 40% of OVHcloud’s carbon footprint
Contribution to Global Net-Zero for all scopes by 2030, with scope 3 being related mainly to component manufacturing
0% landfill by 2025 for waste related to OVHcloud’s processes at the constant geographical scope
OVHcloud plans to implement a carbon calculator directly from its platform to give customers an understanding of their actual cloud carbon IT footprint.
More security choices in the data center or at the edge
As the champion of a trusted cloud, OVHcloud promotes secure solutions where customer data remains immune to extra-territorial laws. With a clear commitment towards the ANSSI’s SecNumCloud qualification, the Group is pursuing its investments to bring SecNumCloud to its entire Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) portfolio and its Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) solutions. Addressing the ever-growing need for resilience, an AZ region in the Greater Paris area will open in the first half of 2023.
Acknowledging the most demanding use cases, the Group will deploy a Data-Center-as-a-Service model to process sensitive data, on customers’ data center sites, at the edge or on its own data centers. And for customers dealing with highly sensitive data, OVHcloud is working on disconnected data centers, providing hardware, software and management solutions in the customer’s desired location, all the while ensuring those data centers are not connected to the Internet for complete operational sovereignty.
Expanding public cloud around data and modern apps
OVHcloud’s Public Cloud portfolio, with revenue growth of 33.9% YoY, will continue to evolve with the introduction of several new solutions in the first half of 2023. These solutions are key in building modern cloud native apps and addressing the whole data lifecycle for various uses, such as AI, Big Data or storage, helping customers remain competitive and master their costs in the digital era. Executing its strong belief in open source, the Group will also share the orchestration software for its public cloud with the open source community.
Metal instances bring the elasticity of the cloud to bare metal
Complementing the app developer’s toolbox, the Group is launching metal instances, bringing the best of the bare metal universe and its tremendous compute power to the convenience of a public cloud environment, accessible through a pay-as-you-go model. Metal Instances are specifically designed to address specific workloads, offering immediate availability and quick deployment times to address performance, licensing or low-level software customization.
A vibrant ecosystem to deploy the next generation innovations
OVHcloud aims to support a wide ecosystem to bring to life the next generation cloud and its applications, leveraging the strengths and expertise of each partner. The upper layer of these innovations relies on high- profile partnerships, like VMWare, with whom OVHcloud historically partners to adapt their technologies to sovereignty requirements. This year, OVHcloud announces the availability of VMWare Tanzu, which will be offered in a local flavor to preserve data sovereignty.
The Group also has strong relationships with leading system integrators, who go the extra mile when deploying innovative implementations of industry-recognized software. For instance, partnering with Sopra Steria, OVHcloud recently presented a SAP S/4HANA demonstrator deployed on a SecNumCloud infrastructure. After becoming a SAP-certified provider in cloud and infrastructure operations earlier this year, OVHcloud ambitions to accelerate and facilitate the deployment of SAP environments in a trusted cloud, which is of special interest to public sector financial and accounting services and the corporate segment in need of unfettered data sovereignty.
With more than 1,100 global and local partners, OVHcloud held the second edition of its Open Trusted Cloud event, helping Independent Software Vendors (ISV) grow in their respective markets while powering their PaaS and SaaS infrastructures. Schools, startups and scale-ups are also an integral part of OVHcloud vision of the ecosystem, supporting revolutionary new breakthroughs with Pasqal and Quandela, who are both working on the next compute revolution with the Group support.
Quantum: the next disruption
Quantum is indeed anticipated to be IT’s next disruption, and OVHcloud intends to play a full role in creating an ecosystem ready to embrace this fundamental change, helping today’s scientists create the algorithms of tomorrow. The keynote will feature physicist Nobel Prize recipient Alain Aspect, known for his experimental work on quantum entanglement, to elaborate on the many possibilities of quantum computing before a roundtable themed around developing quantum solutions.
