DSA recently met with Raymond Goh, Technical Director for the Asia & Japan region, Veeam Software, to discuss Veeam’s collaborative engagement with NetApp and how the two companies are combining their services.
Raymond says he sees two perspectives from the partnership. From a technology standpoint, the two companies have been working closely on the integration since 2014. They have also been improving processes, making it easy and simple for customers.
“(We are) bringing simplicity by offering a single procurement process to improve the customer experience. That makes a great deal for the customers’ satisfaction as well as the value to the market,” he added.
To a question on whether NetApp can sell all of Veeam products, Raymond says they can and adds that they will also add more products to what NetApp can sell in the future because at the end of the day, it’s about giving customers more options and allowing them to choose solutions that are best suited for the specific needs of their environment.
“A lot of customers are looking at ease of procurement. From a one-stop shop, you can get a single PO together with NetApp and Veeam – thereby improving the time to market for our customers.”
He added that customers also benefit from the storage and integration and overall data management as well.
In a data driven environment, speed is always the issue for the enterprise. As such, Raymond says that from a customer’s perspective, backing up and restoring data quickly and efficiently are absolutely essential.
“We have been always in that race to zero, to change the perspective of the overall data protection. We call it data availability. And we’re building this hyper availability platform that consists of our alliances. NetApp comes into the picture really well in reducing the RPO from minutes to seconds, and at the same time bridging it across to cloud perspective, keeping the same recovery SLA, whether it’s in minutes, whether it’s in seconds, across on-premise cloud as well as private cloud on a multi-cloud strategy.”
Moving into a data-driven world is what makes the NetApp Veeam collaboration one that’s timely and makes sense to the customer. Raymond feels that having a good data management strategy will be critical in taking advantage of this partnership.
“We call it the 5 stages of Intelligent Data Management that help customers achieve the innovative, reliable, easy-to-use solutions that “just work” in any environment. NetApp plays a critical role in this approach.”
To another question on collaboration and whether it’s catered more to bringing in more customers or in building best of breed solutions for existing ones, Raymond takes the middle ground.
“Definitely for both or even more for just existing NetApp and Veeam customers or new customers for us, even into the new availability market which demands a new challenge of what availability means for data.”
