The most important part of a business? Communication.

The most used application for all staff to serve this purpose? Emails.

Despite the number of mobile devices increasing and the different type of applications available for communication increasing, email is still the primary and most common way business people send information to each other. In an age driven by data email has literally transformed how business works.

However, emails are also a potentially very open point of entry for security breaches – from malicious files to phishing links – there has been a myriad of different ways users get tricked into clicking on malicious links or providing sensitive information.

Sure, you can educate your workforce to be more diligent on identifying emails. It used to be easy to detect spam mails - it was full of grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, and used formal language. Now, the language, content and overall message is much more clean, with some spam mimicking the layout of emails from legitimate organisations – it’s more and more difficult to distinguish whether it’s spam or genuine.

Emails could be targeted through advanced persistent threats as a broad attack to attempt breaking in an organisation; or, spear phishing - messaging targeted at certain individuals, tricking users into providing sensitive information, or installing malicious software.

Email is something that should be a business enabler and managing risk in email should not take up IT department cycles. Software that can help identify and filter these attacks are useful to reduce risk, but also increase efficiency for the workplace.

Cisco’s solution aims to do just that – by helping detect phishing attacks, malware, scams and virus infected emails; they save not only your organisation from majority of the attacks, it keeps your staff safe without needing to spend too much time thinking about security all delivered by a company that understand every layer from the email to the transport mechanism that moves those mails around.
