‘Wi-Fi’ which was trademarked by the Wi-Fi Alliance, which is the organization that owns the Wi-Fi registered trademark term, defines Wi-Fi as any “wireless local area network (WLAN) products that are based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ (IEEE) 802.11 standards.” They expanded the use of Wi-Fi in order to prevent the confusion about wireless LAN interoperability.
