DSA took the chance to visit the Dell Solutions Centre in Singapore to better understand just what is on offer to IT professionals who want to find out more about how Dell can assist them as they plan their enterprise IT requirements.
The first thing that struck as we toured the centre is how much Non-Dell equipment is on display, perhaps this shouldn’t be a surprise. Dell has embraced partnership as a way of becoming an increasingly relevant enterprise player.

The aim with the solutions centre is to be able to demonstrate real world enterprise IT and Dell fully understand that means corporation with other vendors that supplement their own offerings.
The Solutions centre itself comprises of meeting rooms, and labs with different pre-set technology on display such as VDI, Hadoop and Hyperconverged.

The corner stone of the centre is the air cooled computer room, filled with well organised racks populated with every major compute, network and storage technology that Dell offers.

Dell tout their solutions Centres as:
“A global network of dedicated state-of-the-art technical labs that enable you to architect, validate and build solutions, from the data centre to the edge of the network”

To the average IT professional what this means is an immensely powerful resource is available to them that can be utilised in multiple ways.

For those just wanting to understand a new technology better, the solutions centre can be used to give a hands on experience to help with that learning curve. If you want to get your hands on a hyperconverged appliance and see just what all the buzz is about, then according to the people that run the solutions centre that is very easy to arrange.

Further, if you want to bring your own applications and data into the centre, see how they perform on new platforms.

We know that these are very challenging times for IT professionals. The datacentre is changing beyond recognition. It is becoming software defined, increasingly powered by new technologies such as flash, and also having to incorporate at least an element of cloud strategy into their over-all enterprise IT.

The Dell Solutions Centre should be looked at as an amazing resource to help make informed decisions as this transition occurs. When you boil it down the centre assist in three key areas of the transformation journey:
·       Briefings – learn about a new technology and see it in action
·       Design Sessions – sit down with systems architects to design an infrastructure with the ability to actually configure the technologies you are considering as part of the design process.
·       Full Proof of Concept – Build a comprehensive test environment with real world data.

Dell are proud of their Solutions Centre, and rightly so. They are happy for people to visit to better understand the resource and how they might use it. If you would like a tour of the solutions centre in Singapore, click here to register your interest
