2014 Press Releases

June 16, 2014

Atomic PCIe cards built for zero latency apps

This is one of those superfluous press releases interspersed with adjectives like “unparalleled” or “breakthrough” or “foundational” or “hyperscale” meant to mask a simple story – vendor A is launching a new product but we can’t really say much so we will add colorful words just to make it long enough to be worth a page of work. Sorry to be sarcastic but even the CEO quote makes me wonder if this is worth writing about. Research the web doesn’t bring out much either. The only other business story around this is HP is the first OEM vendor to market this product.

Yes I get it that users and applications demanding speed or zero latency.

I do like Fusion-io President Lance Smith’s short blog on the announcement where he writes:

“For today’s consumers, buffering is a 4-letter word, making real-time data a necessity for any solution or application to be successful.”

I guess that best sums it! We live in an age where waiting time is ideally zero seconds.

So please when you write a press release like the one below, stop wasting time with superfluous words and get on with the message – new architecture or technology makes for faster processing of demanding applications.

Fusion-io Announces Atomic Series – Higher Performance and Maximum Capacity for Optimized Efficiency

Newest Flash Memory Platform Architected for Application Acceleration across Appliance and Server Deployments for Industries Worldwide

Fusion-io announced Atomic Series, the newest flash memory platform featuring breakthrough innovations that achieve unparalleled performance and double the capacity on the smallest available NAND footprint for appliance and server environments. Companies both big and small, from small and medium enterprises (SME) to the Fortune 500 and hyperscale, all rely on Fusion-io to accelerate their applications.

“Patience is no longer a virtue in a world where we expect information at our fingertips with ever increasing velocity,” said Fusion-io CEO and Chairman of the Board Shane Robison. “Latency is the new dial up. Our newest advancements in flash memory with the release of Atomic Series ensure that data flows seamlessly and with greater speed, efficiency and reliability by accelerating data-driven applications.”

Atomic Series is built on foundational technology achievements with the latest third generation Fusion-io memory-based architecture. Flash powers applications that demand more performance and less infrastructure. Architected for application acceleration through innovative software advancements, Atomic Series delivers much higher performance than typical SSDs in a fraction of the space, making it a perfect fit for a broad range of applications including database and cloud applications, big data analytics, and hyperscale workloads.

“Speed is critical to most any application, whether it is a doctor’s immediate request for patient data, a retailer’s need for fraud detection or an individual’s desire to share and connect special moments,” said Jeff Janukowicz, research director at IDC. “To meet this need for speed, businesses require solutions that can accelerate the flow of information and this positions companies, such as Fusion-io, to capitalize on this growing demand."

Atomic Series is available through the company’s diverse partner network that includes top-tier original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), technology resellers, distributors, service providers and integrators. Pricing for Fusion-io products is available from the company’s server partners and authorized resellers.
